This course will address a wide variety of considerations necessary to design language development and content curricula. Emphasis is placed upon systematic and methodical preparation of language programs, with an emphasis on selection, application and preparation of teaching materials. Criteria for the evaluation of programs will be considered.
During this course, the students will be introduced to how development of teaching resources connects to curricula. The philosophies and worldview expressed in Dene Kede and Inuuqatigiit will form the basis of all curriculum planning. Students will investigate the principles of language acquisition and a variety of approaches to teaching language with a focus on whole language. The process for developing long and short term plans related to Aboriginal language instruction will be covered. This will include the spiralling of concepts on themes across the grades. The students will create theme or topic units based on Dene Kede and Inuuqatigiit curriculum
