This course is designed to introduce potential Language Instructors to the basics of teaching and learning. Although the students entering the course may represent a wide range of academic and experiential backgrounds, Introduction to Teaching and Learning will provide all students with their first formal introduction to the teaching profession.

During this course, the students will be introduced to general teaching and learning strategies with an emphasis on language skills development. This will include an introduction to both first and second language instruction within a bilingual education framework. A variety of learning and teaching strategies will be demonstrated by the Course Instructor and then used by the Language Instructor Trainees in peer group and classroom demonstration lessons. The basics of lesson planning, classroom management and multi-media materials will also be covered.
