Thank you for visiting Aurora College’s website. It is our hope that this site gives you the information you need to make informed decisions about the exciting educational options we offer at Aurora College.

This site will introduce you to our curriculum, which has been tailor-made for the unique needs of Northerners and the NWT labour market. Our programs draw from the latest technologies to provide up-to-date training and we also draw on traditional knowledge that has informed the rich cultures of the North for centuries. The result is a rewarding educational experience that prepares you for an exciting career and enriches your life experience.

The site will also introduce you to our campuses, community learning centres and research centres. We pride ourselves on our presence throughout the Northwest Territories and work closely with partners throughout the North to ensure that the educational needs of Northerners are addressed. We are also involved in global educational initiatives, such as the University of the Arctic, a virtual institution supported by circumpolar nations throughout the world. Through transfer agreements, our programming connects Northerners to a wide world of educational opportunities throughout Canada and beyond. Our goal is to offer Northerners access to whatever educational opportunities they need to achieve their dreams.

Historically, this land has been a place of hunting, harvesting and trading for the Inuvialuit, Gwich’in, North Slavey, South Slavey, Chipewyan, Cree, Inuit and Metis peoples, and this cultural history is reflected in areas of study such as Teacher Education, Environment and Natural Resources, Social Work and Nursing. Today, NWT residents come from all over Canada, and our small but cosmopolitan capital city of Yellowknife is home to new Northerners from over 100 countries across the globe. Our trades and technological programming reflects the needs of the modern North as well, ensuring our graduates are well prepared for employment in a broad range of exciting careers.

Over the past forty years, Aurora College has grown from our humble roots as a vocational school to a vibrant post-secondary institution offering certificates, diplomas, degrees and trades training. Our unique programs offer strong cultural content and plenty of hands-on experiences combined with the latest technology and practices. It is this innovative programming mix that helps to make an Aurora College education such a transformative experience.
